Mural in Osaka

Japanese mural artist Hitch paints a piece in homage to Józef Chełmoński — Reinterpreting ‘Indian Summer’ and bringing Polish landscapes to the streets of Osaka.

This work is part of an initiative to promote Polish culture and aims to symbolize international cultural exchange through art. Józef Chełmoński's [Indian Summer] is a lyrical work known for its depiction of Poland's serene autumn landscapes and the simple lives of its people.

Hitch seeks to capture this serene worldview on the urban wall, employing his signature advanced realistic techniques to explore expressions that touch upon the depths of time and memory. This work, where painting and mural, as well as the cultures of Japan and Poland intersect, will function as a poetic medium connecting the past and present, landscape and city.

The mural is painted on the exterior wall of a building near Nishikujo Station in Osaka. Despite being located in a bustling area where people pass by daily, it offers a moment to pause and imagine oneself in a foreign landscape, akin to a “small journey within the city.”

This project aims to deepen friendship between Japan and Poland through art while also bringing a new perspective to the cultural landscape of the region.

A painter based in Osaka, born in Kyoto and raised in Hyogo.

He has been creating works ranging from huge murals to small canvases, combining realistic figures and organic motifs such as animals and plants. His commissioned works include artwork for famous musicians and murals for companies in Japan and overseas.

日本のミューラルアーティストHitchが描く、Józef Chełmońskiのオマージュ作品

 ―『Indian Summer』を再解釈し、大阪の街にポーランドの風景を呼び込む

日本の壁画アーティスト Hitch によって、ポーランドの国民的画家 Józef Chełmoński（1849–1914） の代表作である[Indian Summer（Babie lato）]をオマージュした新作壁画が大阪で描かれました。本作品は、「ポーランド文化普及イベントの名前を記載」の一環として実現されるものであり、芸術を通じた国際的な文化交流の象徴となることを目指しています。

Józef Chełmońskiの[Indian Summer]は、ポーランドの穏やかな秋の風景と素朴な人々の暮らしを描いた叙情的な作品として知られています。Hitchは、この静謐な世界観を都市の壁面に転写しながら、自身の得意とする高度な写実技法を駆使し、時間や記憶の奥に触れるような表現を試みます。絵画とミューラル、そして日本とポーランドという二つの文化が交差する本作は、過去と現在、風景と都市をつなぐ詩的なメディアとして機能することでしょう。

壁画が描かれるのは、大阪の西九条駅付近にある建物の外壁。日常的に人々が行き交う場所にありながら、ふと足を止めて異国の風景に思いを馳せるような、「都市の中の小さな旅」に出会うことができます。

本プロジェクトは、芸術を通して日本とポーランドの友好を深めると同時に、地域の文化的景観にも新たな視点をもたらします。

京都出身、兵庫育ち、大阪拠点のペインター。

リアリスティックな人物・動植物といった有機的モチーフを組み合わせたスタイルで、これまで巨大な壁画から小さなキャンバス作品で制作を続けてきた。コミッションワークとしては著名ミュージシャンのアートワークや、国内外の企業への作品提供・壁画制作を行う。
