"Peasants Dance Remixed" rocked Wrocław! Music, dance and emotions at the Centennial Hall
On 29 March 2025, Wrocław became the stage for one of the most extraordinary artistic events of the spring. The show ‘Chłopi – Tańcuj Remixed’ (The Peasants – Dance Remixed), combining tradition with modernity, took place in the unique space of the Centennial Hall – a UNESCO-listed building – and attracted crowds of spectators fascinated by the new interpretation of Reymont's epic novel.
This was the second edition of this extraordinary performance, following its premiere in Warsaw in autumn 2024. The Wrocław edition showed that the project is developing, gaining momentum and reaching an increasingly wider audience, offering a slightly different experience each time.
The performance was created as a stage response to the success of the film ‘Chłopi’ – an Oscar-nominated animated film by DK Welchman and Hugh Welchman. This time, the story was transferred to the stage and took the form of a multidimensional spectacle that moved the audience with both its content and form.
The cast included Kayah, Natalia Przybysz, Bela Komoszyńska, Rebel Babel Film Orchestra, Śląsk Song and Dance Ensemble and contemporary dancers, who gave the performance a modern, expressive energy.
The show was intense and multi-layered – full of light, sound, movement and painted animations that transported the audience to the world of Lipiec. The clash of folk rituals with dynamic choreography and electronic sounds created an experience that was both mesmerising and moving – modern in form, yet deeply rooted in tradition.
An additional attraction for participants was an exhibition in the Imperial Hall, where they could see dozens of paintings created for the film, inspired by Polish painting from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
